New on TV: The Event
We continue our weekend TV show preview with a look at the new NBC series, The Event!
Check out our previews of &#*! My Dad Says, No Ordinary Family and Outsourced.
Written by Meg M.
The Event is an emotional American conspiracy thriller starring Jason Ritter (The Class) and Scott Patterson, of Gilmore Girls fame. Ritter is Sean Walker, an ordinary young man who stumbles upon the biggest cover-up in U.S. history when his fiancée Leila disappears. Sean’s quest to uncover his Leila’s whereabouts will affect the lives of complete strangers, including U.S. President Martinez (portrayed by Blair Underwood), Sophia, the leader of a group of detainees, and Sean’s almost-father-in-law.
Don’t expect The Event to be like the recently defunct Flash Forward or dearly departed Lost. E Online’s Kristin, as well as the bosses behind The Event, assured critics and viewers that this new show will have an entirely different feel. Evan Katz, executive producer, claims that show will answer questions and satisfy audience. But don’t think that this means there won’t be any mystery. It appears that there will be many exciting layers to this story.
Tune in to the preview below, and tell us your opinion of this upcoming series in our comment section. Catch the series premiere of The Event on Monday, September 20 at 9 pm on NBC.

I want to check this out, but if the ratings are not good, I’m afraid the network will pull the series, never answering any questions, and leave me hanging. That’s why I am cautious about starting new shows. I have burned too many times in the past. Although, who am I kidding? I’ll be watching next week

I think the show looks great, but perhaps a little too realistic and close what we went through with 911. The actor in the picture on the far right has a part on Big Love and he is fantastic. I would think all the acting in this show would be spot on and the sets and realism credible.
I am not liking the character of Sophia already. She is a little too casual looking and acting to be in direct contact with the President. Maybe she is a Monica Lewinsky type for the show but probably not.
Anyway, I think I will be catching a few episodes and likely be hooked shortly. Thanks for giving me the heads up on the show Vera.
Got my husband to watch the preview film and now he wants to watch the show also!
When I started reading the review I was so excited to see the show! When it said it would not be like two of my favorite shows – Flash Forward and Lost – I was not so sure. I happen to love shows that really require you to think and keeps you guessing. I don’t want a show that just hands the answers over. Still, I will definitely give this one a shot since they have taken so many of my favorites away
!
The commercials for this show confuse the heck out of me … For someone who likes engrossing action thriller type shows, it’s probably gonna be a good one. But I prefer shows that don’t require super-strict watching … character-driven rather than action-driven
This sounds like a great show. My only fear is, it might be too complicated. Miss an episode and your out of the loop as to what’s going on. (Hugs)Indigo
