Are you looking for a novel that is both suspenseful and laced with romance? Read Shattered by Cynthia Eden, the third book in the LOST series. In this series, the last option search team is featured in each novel, although each novel focuses on a different member of the team.

Shattered revolves around Sarah, a member of LOST, whose traumatic past helps her to understand killers, and therefore, catch them. When a psychopath targets her and her newfound flame, bad boy Jax Fontaine, Sarah must use her skills to stop a killer. However, when the killer brings up Sarah’s past, she must also battle with the guilt that she feels for the sins of her father, Murphy the Monster, who she helped put behind bars many years ago for multiple murders. Will Sarah, Jax, and the members of LOST be able to stop the killer before he claims the lives of his targets? And will Jax and Sarah’s dark pasts keep them from being able to be together?

First off, let me say that I could not put this book down. Once I started reading it, I completed it within a matter of two days. Eden did a fantastic job keeping me hooked from the first page until the last. Shattered is a very fast-paced novel, and although it is quite suspenseful, there is also a wonderful love story developing between Sarah and Jax that kept me rooting for their ‘happily ever after’.

Shattered is written in multiple third person perspectives and gives the reader a look into the minds of all involved including (but not limited to): Sarah, Jax, Detective West, the killer, Murphy, and a few others. While some people may find this off-putting, this was probably one of my favorite literary devices that Eden used. Giving the reader multiple perspectives is what made the ‘race against the clock’ element of this novel so prevalent. I knew from the beginning of the novel that someone was targeting both Sarah and Jax, and seeing into the killer’s psyche is what kept that at the forefront of my mind as opposed to solely focusing on the other victims, or Jax and Sarah’s love story.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the romantic suspense genre, or anyone who is just looking for a good book in general.
