Regrets Only, M.J. Pullen’s second novel in a series about a group of friends living in Atlanta, is a charming and suspenseful read, keeping the reader guessing until the very end.
Suzanne is 33 years old, has a successful event planning business, an amazing group of best friends, a fabulous condo in Atlanta, and guys lining up to take her out on the town and attempt to win her heart. Not to mention, she has just booked an event that could take her career to a whole other level.
However, after meticulously planning this “event of the season,” a series of strange accidents send her life into a tailspin. Not only does it end with a huge blow to her career, but it also has her re-thinking her philosophy on life and love.
The light at the end of this seemingly endless tunnel, however, is that her newest client, Dylan Burke – a sexy country singer – asks her to plan his sister’s wedding. With her normal mantra of “I don’t do weddings” thrown out of the window, Suzanne agrees.
Shortly after this acceptance, she comes to realize that her ‘strange accidents’ may not be accidents at all. Suzanne has to delve into her past relationships, not only to search for suspects, but also to figure out what keeps going wrong in her romantic life.
I love that Marci and Jake (from The Marriage Pact) are back in this book, but even more, I love that we get to know another character in this circle of friends, Suzanne. She is very true-to-life, seemingly strong and unshakable on the outside, but just like anyone else when you get to know her. I could see being best friends with her in real life. Pullen did a great job bringing the reader characters that are relatable with not only the two main characters, Suzanne and Dylan, but also with the secondary characters, as well.
Another great thing about this book is that it doesn’t just focus on Suzanne’s journey of self-discovery or the fact that she is being targeted. Instead, it focuses on both things equally, giving the book more depth.
Finally, I was extremely surprised by the last few chapters. Things didn’t play out how I expected, but it was a good thing!
All in all, Regrets Only is a great follow-up to the previous book, and I can’t wait to read the next one.
