The Internet is a vast, unknown, and often unfriendly place. There is, however, a place where women can get together and share things. They can share recipes and projects and news stories that caught their eye. They can share photos of their families or of the communities that they call home. They can even share their secret thoughts and dreams and all of the ideas they dare to let others see. This is Kirtsy.
Kirtsy.com is the brainchild of Laurie, Laura, and Gabby, three women who had met over the Internet and formed a friendship as strong as those they had in their “real” lives. They wanted to create a place for women to meet online that could serve as a magnet for all of the lovely things that were coming up on people’s websites, blogs, and photo banks. Thus, they created Kirtsy, a social media platform that allows women to create accounts and share materials with each other. What started as the hopeful project of three Internet friends has turned into a major media site, attracting thousands of visitors every day.
Kirtsy Takes a Bow collects some of the best material found on Kirtsy.com and puts it in print. The book is made up of beautiful photographs and touching blog entries by women all over the country. Recipes, crafts, politics, relationships, humor…you name it and this book’s got it.
I absolutely adored Kirtsy Takes a Bow from cover to cover. These women are so open, friendly, and familiar that the book felt like a cozy coffee shop chat between friends. It inspired me not only to become a better blogger, but to really open myself up so that I could take in all the details of life that these women have managed to capture. I can only hope that this wonderful collection will have a second volume…and soon!
Carly lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her husband and their two cats. Her favorite thing to do is to curl up by a window with a library book. When she isn’t reading, she’s usually writing on her blog at www.beingcarly.com.
