My essential oil journey (obsession) began a few years ago and ever since that fateful day in my best friend’s living room, I have enjoyed soaking up all the information about these magical liquids in dark colored bottles. Adina Grigore, founder of S.W. Basics and author of Just the Essentials, fell into the world of essential oils based on a need. She had major skin issues and after visiting doctor after doctor and receiving multiple medicines, all with no relief, she gave up. “Who knew,” Grigore says, “that simple, natural ingredients could do more than smell pretty and taste nice—that they contained potent plant-based compounds that offered real benefits for your skin?” Thus began her essential oil journey.
After sharing a little of her story, Grigore gets into the nitty-gritty of oils. She gives a brief history lesson into the life of essential oils and tells a little about the big business (it is quoted to hit $11.7 billion by 2022). After giving an overview of these two topics, she dives into the science (don’t worry, she is able to explain it in a way that will not make your head explode from confusion) and also offers advice on how you can use them in your every day life. She shares different ways of diffusing oils and talks about staying safe while using oils. Grigore also shares which ten oils you shouldn’t be without.
But honestly, truly, that’s only half of the book! The second half of the book, is filled with so many different recipes using essential oils. From mouth wash to skin care and person care and aromatherapy—many of which I am very excited to try!
Just the Essentials offers a world of knowledge. I think Adina Grigor’s book would be perfect for any essential oil lover—whether they are just starting out, or an expert. I can’t wait to try many of the recipes, and I also enjoyed learning about the history into essential oils. I already knew how amazing essential oils are, but they are the catalyst for so much—modern medicine, perfume, and so much more.
