If you have read any of the Connections Series, then you know that Ben Covington is the mind that you have wanted to get into. This story delves deeper into Ben’s story, the reason behind some of the things he did in previous books, and ties up many loose ends. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the female lead and I definitely felt that I needed to know her in order to understand things that happened in Ben’s past.
Frayed is a spin-off that gives us a glimpse of a man who had it all and lost it. For anyone who has ever hit the bottom and felt like they will never be able to get it back together, this is a great read for you. Ben is afraid of failing again due to his past and now, he is in a worse place than ever. With his best friend out of town, his uncomfortable relationship with his sister, the death of someone close to him and losing the love of his life, he turns to the bottle, only to fall deeper than he ever expected. When he finally hits rock bottom, he decided to clean up his life and get back on the right track, giving love a second chance and opening himself up for new opportunities.
Overall, I was happy to close this series, but was not as impressed with #4 as I was with the other installments. I tried to look at this novel in a different manner, searching for other meanings behind the cat and mouse love story, and did come up with the purpose of this ending. This novel is a journey of self-finding and determination. With the help of love, Ben finally finds what he has been missing.
Rebecca is passionate and insane, empathetic and aggressive, loud and predictable. She loves reading, writing, shopping and creating. She is what she is and it may not be what the world wants but it is what it is. Love.
