flag for the flying dragon book coverReviewed by Alyssa Katanic

Every pirate ship needs a piratey flag, and everyone knows how important a flag is, as it represents all who stand beneath it. Thus, Captain No Beard has been on the search for the perfect flag! Meanwhile, however, there is trouble stirring amongst his crew. Everyone has a job to do… well, almost everyone!

In the latest Captain No Beard Story, A Flag for the Flying Dragon, by Carole P. Roman, First Mate Hallie’s baby brother Zachary, dressed in his super cute, pinned cloth diaper, has joined the crew! But where, exactly, does he fit in? It is too dangerous up high in the crow’s nest, Cayla doesn’t want to share her swabbing duties, and Zachery is a bit too forceful when it comes to cracking coconuts, especially when he misses them and hits others with his club! Not even Hallie wants to share her job of swabbing decks with little Zachary.

Captain No Beard recognizes that teamwork is essential to keeping everything ship-shape. His eyes fall upon a rag, stained in the shape of a skull, and though it is not the perfect flag he dreams of sailing under, he knows that it will yet bind his crew together by giving Zachary a job all his own, that of raising the flag!

Once again, all is well on the Flying Dragon, and Roman has done another great job of providing a good example of teamwork and compromising through the crew of the Flying Dragon and the great leadership of Captain No Beard in a creative and fun way. Don’t miss out on A Flag for the Flying Dragon by Carole P. Roman!
