In Emma Blooms At Last, book two of Naomi King’s One Big Happy Family series, author Naomi King re-introduces us to the families that make Cedar Creek such a special place. The newly blended Brubaker family is thriving in Amanda’s Cedar Creek home, and James Graber and Abby Lambright are preparing for their wedding celebration.
Meanwhile, James’ sister Emma is struggling with all the changes in her family. When James moves in to Abby’s home, she finds herself the sole caregiver for her aging parents. She’s desperate for some change of her own. When Amanda’s fun-loving nephew Jerome continues to show an interest in her, she’s not sure if she should reciprocate his affections. His reputation prevents her from taking a chance. But as the two of the get to know each other, she wonders if she’s been wrong about him all along.
Naomi King has done it again with a book that describes the Amish way of life. Each of her characters are beautifully written, complex and incredibly relatable. It was wonderful to catch up with the Brubaker family, despite the troubles that they encounter in the second installment of the series. Wyman and Amanda learn what it means to fight for what they believe in while maintaining their integrity. And Emma learns that sometimes you can’t believe what you hear, and to follow your heart. If you’re a fan of Amish fiction, you’ll love this beautiful story of family and friendship.
