Good morning, y’all! Thank you so much for inviting me to stop by your site and talk about my new book, The Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society Jubilee today. It’s been out a little more than a week now and is garnering some really awesome reviews. Yes, ma’am, the world is beautiful from the view up here in the clouds where I’ve been floating since it first hit the shelves.
The Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society Jubilee (whew, that is a mouth full, isn’t it?) is my first foray into the world of women’s fiction and an absolute dream come true. I’ve written historical series and single title books, contemporary series and single titles, cowboy books and country music books but always on the back boiler there’s been a little dream to write women’s fiction.
And now here it is! What gave me the final shove into actually sitting down and writing a women’s fiction series? First of all, yes, ma’am, this is a trilogy. The Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society Jubilee will be followed next spring by The Red Hot Chili Cook-Off and after that The Yellow Rose Barbecue Ball.
In The Blue Ribbon Jalapeno Society Jubilee things have been pretty calm in Cadillac. Even the ongoing feud between Agnes and Violet, both up near eighty years old, hasn’t flared up in a while. And then Cathy, Agnes’s favorite niece, gets engaged to Violet’s son and all hell breaks loose. Some folks didn’t know if the Jubilee might be the last one ever to be held because the feud fires up like a Texas wildfire and there was fear that Cadillac wouldn’t even be standing when it was done.
Then after the craziest wedding in Cadillac’s history, things settle down again until Carlene Carmichael Lovelle, (The Red Hot Chili Cook-Off) finds a pair of red bikini under britches in her husband’s brief case. They did not belong to her but she’d made them for a woman half her husband’s age to wear on a trip with her “sugar daddy.” Carlene and two of her cousins own a lingerie shop, Bless My Bloomers, right there in Cadillac. It was absolutely amazing how much turmoil one little pair of red bikinis could stir up in every corner of that small Texas town. Lord, by the time it was over, Agnes and Violet were at it again and the gossip vines were flourishing.
The dust barely sifted back to earth from The Red Hot Chili Cook-Off when Oma Lynn decided she was tired of waiting for her daughter, Stella, to get married and have grand babies for her to spoil. So she put Stella’s name on the prayer list down at the church. Surely the prayer warriors and God could work together and find a husband for her daughter, the owner and operator of The Yellow Rose Hair Salon on Main Street in Cadillac. Stella dug her heels in and the fight was on. One name on a prayer list created another storm right there in Cadillac when things got out of hand at the Yellow Rose Barbecue Ball!
I digressed a little there. The question was what made me decide to write women’s fiction? I’d have to say simply because it is so much fun! I still love my cowboys and there are more on the way with the Billion Dollar Cowboy starting a brand new series, Cowboys & Brides, in June.
But writing women’s fiction is absolutely a dream come true for me. I’d like to ask my readers…do you only read one genre from an author or are you willing to take a step into the unknown and pick up a debut book like The Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society Jubilee from an author who’s been branded as a hot cowboy author?
