Small town Montana meets big city Chicago in Katy Regnery’s sweet love story, By Proxy. When Jenny Lindstrom agrees to do a huge favor for a childhood friend, she has no idea her world is going to literally collide with the sophisticated city boy Sam Kelley. They don’t get off on the right foot, but, brought together on a common mission, the pair is forced into a weekend of bonding. Bit by bit, Jenny realizes that Sam might not be the man she thought he was. At the same time, Sam also begins to see that first impressions are often not accurate.
Throughout the weekend, a crush develops, and then turns into a possibility for something more. But Jenny’s life is in Montana, and Sam’s is in Chicago. Innocent Jenny is not so sure whether worldly Sam is a good match for her. Can he ever understand her love for Montana? Furthermore, would he ever be happy with someone as inexperienced as she, both in life and love? Sam questions whether Jenny could ever want more than what her small town has to offer. To make matters more complex, Sam’s previous relationship threatens to interfere with the tentative romance, while Jenny’s family might also prove to be a roadblock.
In order to make the relationship work, Jenny needs to work through some issues from her past that are holding her back. But that’s not all. Jenny and Sam both need to be honest with themselves and each other and decide whether they care enough about one another to make some major compromises.
By Proxy is a touching story about people with strong values and family connections; people with integrity and an intense desire to do what’s right. Reading about characters with such positive character traits was refreshing and something of a relief. Regnery has created a story that feels good to read, which can be hard to find.
