There are only a handful of authors that make it to my “must-get” list. These authors write books that I know I will enjoy and ones I know I will reach for when I need a pick-me-up. Beyond All Dreams comes from one of those authors. Elizabeth Camden is above par in her genre and I treasure each and every work penned by her.
Camden is known for her historical novels that take the reader from the room they are in and transport them to a different time and place. Beyond All Dreams is no different. This time we travel to 1897 and the place is Washington, D.C. Anna O’Brien is a librarian in the illustrious Library of Congress. She meets brilliant politicians day after day and is used to their demands and petty arguing. But the day she gets called to attend a congressional hearing – of the Committee on Fisheries of all things – is the day she bumps into Lucas Callahan. Luke is arrogant and hasty when he first meets this pretty and spunky librarian, and he will never forget the day he snaps his fingers to make her do his bidding. Anna is searching for her past and Luke is trying to forget his. They are two people who collide in a fiery explosion but will Anna risk her livelihood to follow her heart? Or will she keep her future safe and lose the man who needs her?
I love a historical novel that paints pictures of that time period and Camden does just that in her newest story. We see the huge Library of Congress and the trees swaying in the yard. I can just imagine Anna and Luke as they stroll down the street or pause in the restaurant for a bite to eat. Their witty conversations are another reason for me to love this author. Her characters always bring out the best in each other and I had to laugh at the ways Anna calms down Luke and talks sense into him. They are perfect for each other from the start but they have to see that for themselves. Another excellent five star page turner from Elizabeth Camden!!
