10-Minute Makeup is a fun, bright and easy-to-follow how-to for any makeup lover. The tutorials are well-written and understandable; even without a full arsenal of makeup brushes, expensive products, or an advanced skill set, anyone can easily replicate the looks. I was surprised to find that many—if not all—of the looks contained items that I already owned. If I did not have the particular color or item listed, I could quickly determine another color or product that would work in place.
Author Boris Entrup is a professional makeup artist, and his love of the art is clear. He is passionate about his career and also seems to see makeup as an art form, which is evident from the collection of fifty different looks and stunning images in 10-Minute Makeup. There really is something for everyone in these pages, and while you may not perfect winged eyeliner on the first try, you will have fun trying it! Entrup opens the book with the basics of skincare, which I thought was a nice touch because the market is flooded with a multitude of products that can be confusing–especially for a beginner. With this introduction, Entrup explains nine basic products that every woman should own to take care of her skin. He does the same with brushes, tools, and products. While you don’t need to rush out to buy everything, it is a good list to have. The looks are all organized in mini pictures, which makes it easy to find the ones that you want.
The models in 10-Minute Makeup are stunning, the colors fresh and bright, and a many of the styles timeless and ageless. This book would work for a fifteen-year-old girl just getting into makeup or a fifty-year-old woman looking to update her look. I really liked that it was easy to determine that if one part of a look didn’t work for a particular skin tone or eye color, other parts of the look could still be replicated. There are handy mini-tips peppered throughout the book, as well, that give further clarification if you need a little more help. There’s also a helpful section on eyebrows and beauty tips for every age. Entrup combined a lot of useful information into an aesthetically pleasing book that doesn’t read as a boring how-to manual but rather as an instructional art book. This book is a lot of fun, and I found myself reaching for it not only in getting ready for a few events but also for quick updates to my every day look.
